A Pokemon Update 3

2025-10-08

Pokemon X & Y

Since the last update, I have completed Pokemon Y and am about halfway through a playthrough of Pokemon X. Out of all the Pokemon in Generation 6, I am only missing 10, counting Xerneas and the mythicals. Some I have the base forms of and just need to evolve. (Thanks to Cafe Le Wow for some crazy XP) Overall, I enjoyed the story in Pokemon X/Y. I didn't particularly attach to the companions / rivals of this generation, but I enjoyed the larger story of historic war, loss of trust, and personal change.

Pokemon Sword & Shield

I was reinvigorated of late to start and work my way through Pokemon Sword after mostly completing Pokemon Shield (I'm missing Zamazenta). As of now, I'm right before the fight with Eternatus and it only took me 9 hours to get there, though I'm not sure if that's a good pace. However, in detouring for forms, I not only got a 1% encounter with authentic form Polteageist within 5 encounters, but I also happened upon a full-odds (1/4096) shiny Oranguru!

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

As far as completing the Dex goes in this game, I am DONE! Not only that, but my side objective of getting a Shiny Meloetta from Pokemon HOME was also completed, despite basically being a whole new PokeDex to complete. I collected every form in these games, including creating a Dunsparce factory and praying for a three-segment Dudunsparce.

Now let's talk about shinies. The shiny Treasures of Ruin Pokemon event also happened in the intervening time between blog posts. I did the raids, got plenty of Herba Mystica, and received the shinies and they're happily tucked away in my ever-growing shiny collection in HOME.

On Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Look, I'm not excited to purchase it, but I have a physical Pokemon collection which seeks to obtain every Pokemon game and spin-off game. Sooo... I bought it. It'll be delivered here soon and I fully expect to lose a bunch of time playing through it. I am eager to see how the game plays in more real-time battles - I think in PvE it will be quite a bit of fun.

However, it is particularly upsetting that Pokemon transferred into Legends: Z-A from HOME will be unable to be transferred back into Generations 8 or 9. This is a shame because HOME contains the ability to solve this particular problem, and Game Freak could always patch, say, the Generation 9 games to account for whatever is different as well. It even stands to reason that since you need to connect to the internet to use HOME, that you would be told to update Scarlet or Violet... It speaks to a type of laziness, and it seems my collection will stay firmly in Generation 9 for the time being.
